Roni Cothran, founder of The Light House, started TLH in 1999 out of a desire to combine the benefits of homeschooling with collective learning and serving with other Christian families. Out of this desire, TLH Education Center was born.
Roni left her position as the director of TLH in May 2005 after watching the first graduating class of TLH walk across the stage and receive their diplomas. To honor her vision and mark her work, the board of directors and the 2005 graduating class voted to name the 9th-12th grade classes at TLH "Cothran High School." She remained as board president and continued to work with families to fulfill the vision of having a place we can call home until she resigned in January 2008 due to urgent health considerations.
The TLH Cothran High School prepares high school students for college and beyond with honors-level curriculum taught by highly trained teachers and opportunities to grow and serve in skills that equip our students for a successful transition into life itself. From community service and missions, to low student/teacher ratios and tutoring sessions, to graduations ceremonies that honor student and family, the Cothran High School incorporates academic and spiritual disciplines designed to help our students develop a rock solid faith, a focus on family and the ability to strive for and attain the dreams and purpose God plants in their hearts, therefore impacting their world for Christ. Among past graduates, two attend Baylor University, are on the Dean’s List, have been nominated by teachers for the University Who’s Who and hold leadership positions in several student clubs; two students attend Texas A&M University and are on the Dean’s List; and one student attends Houston Baptist University and is on the Dean’s List. This is our living proof that the vision the Lord birthed in Roni Cothran is living strong in the students who have graduated from Cothran High School, and it’s that same vision that continues to prepare our current students for the same level of success.
